Suspect in custody after 5-hour standoff

DAYTON, Ohio – A five-hour standoff ended early Monday morning when the suspect surrendered to police. He was inside an apartment on E. 5th Street near S. Harbine Ave.

Authorities said the suspect, James Boggs, beat a woman with a baseball bat. They said she managed to get away and call police. She refused medical treatment.

Authorities said Boggs refused to come out of the apartment. The Hostage Negotiation Team along with S.W.A.T. was called to the scene. Boggs was asking for his father.

Around 5:30 a.m. he finally came out of the house and police took him into custody.
