Area Marine killed in car crash while home on leave

PERRY TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) – A local Marine on leave from Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Station was killed in a car crash over the weekend.

Eryk Vencill, 21, died early Saturday morning when he lost control of his 1998 Ford Mustang on Old Dayton Road and struck a tree.

Sgt. Frank Simmons, with the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the impact of that collision caused the vehicle to split apart.

Vencill was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the car, 22-year-old Cody Jones of Laura, Ohio was treated and released from Miami Valley Hospital.

Visitation is planned for Thursday evening at the First Baptist Church of New Lebanon.

Funeral services are the next day at 10 a.m. at the church.
