Ohio patrol: Crash injures 8 in Georgia family

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — The State Highway Patrol says four adults and four children from a Georgia family were injured when their van crashed on a highway in southeastern Ohio.

Troopers say two children were seriously injured in the one-vehicle crash on U.S. 33 near Athens. They were flown to a Columbus hospital. Their conditions weren’t immediately known.

The patrol says the driver and other members of the Pembroke, Georgia, family were taken to hospitals with “non-incapacitating” injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates an exploding old, worn tire contributed to the crash. Troopers say the van slid off the road and struck a guardrail before ending up back on the road.

The patrol says three children were fastened in child safety seats that weren’t properly secured, and all four children were thrown from the van.
