NEW MADISON, Ohio (WDTN) – Firefighters from several departments responded to a house fire on S. Main Street early Tuesday morning.
Crews were called to the home around 1 a.m. They say flames were shooting from the roof and appeared to be coming from the kitchen.
Due to the size of the fire, the first firefighters on scene quickly called for backup from nearby fire departments.
Firefighters say three people who were inside the home when the fire started tried unsuccessfully to put out the flames themselves. All three made it out of the house safely.
Kris Willets, who lives nearby, says neighbors will do whatever they can to help the people affected.
“Everybody in town will help. New Madison’s a pretty tight-knit community. There’s not one person here that won’t help everybody else,” Willets said.
Firefighters remained on the scene for several hours. They have not determined the cause.
