MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WDTN) – Two children are in the care of their great grandmother after police rescued them from a garage in Middletown.

Officers say they found the 7-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy living in filth in the 2200 block of Queen Avenue.

Investigators say it appeared the children hadn’t bathed in weeks.

According to police reports, the children’s mother, Jackie Pettit, admitted to officers that she abuses heroin.

Charges are pending while the investigation continues.
