Marine gets a new home without paying a dime

KETTERING, Ohio (WDTN) – A retired Marine is the proud, new owner of a home in Kettering and he didn’t pay a dime for it.

Military Warriors Support Foundation and Bank of America joined the community to honor Corporal Drew Kalis with the keys to a mortgage-free home Friday.

Kalis was injured in an explosion while serving in Iraq. He received many awards of distinction including the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal.

Kalis and his fiancee, Kate, are proud to call Kettering home. In fact, they are getting married Saturday.

They applied for the chance to own the home. They found out they were chosen while attending the Country Concert in Ft. Loramie Thursday evening.

Kalis plans to complete a paramedic program and earn a nursing degree.

Bank of America surpassed its goal to donate 1,000 properties to nonprofits supporting military service members and their families. It works closely with the Military Warriors Support Foundation and other nonprofits

This was the 43rd house given away in Ohio, the second one in the Miami Valley. A house was given away in Tipp City last year.
