Pelvic exam guidelines confuse women

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A local ob/gyn disagrees with a body of physicians. A few days ago some doctors recommended doing away with pelvic exams for women.

Dr. Rosalind Jackson of Sycamore Hospital says the exam is a tool to fight the onset of disease. She says she disagrees with the data that shows the pelvic exam is not necessary.

One reason, she says, as an obstetrician/gynecologist, finding out what’s going on inside a woman’s abdominal area is critical to thwarting or slowing the progress of a disorder. She also says, through the pelvic exam, she has picked up on something wrong before her patient had symptoms.
