Local woman killed by lightning strike

YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio (WDTN)– A Miami Valley woman was killed by a lightning strike while hiking in Colorado over the weekend.

42-year-old Rebecca Teilhet from Yellow Springs was struck by lightning at 1:20 Friday afternoon at Rocky Mountain National Park.

The strike occurred on the Ute Crossing Trail.

Teilhet was hiking with her husband and a friend. Her husband and friend were taken to a hospital by ambulance.

Eight people were affected by the lightning strike Friday.

According to park officials, four people were injured Saturday at 3:50 p.m., in another lightning strike at the same park.

They reported the last lightning fatality that occurred in Rocky Mountain National Park happened in 2000.
