Burned golf club keeps golfers in the game

SUGARCREEK TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) – It was almost business as usual at the Sugar Valley Golf Club Monday even as fire investigators looked at damage from a vicious blaze.

Sunday, ten different fire departments struggled to get the roaring flames under control at the clubhouse.

Computers, paper records and pictures are all destroyed. High wind made the flames tough to douse and water had to be trucked in to the area that has no hydrants. Despite that handicap, Monday, golfers were on the green, still supportive of the golf club.

Golf pro Doug Cartwright said administrative activity will move to the historic 1840 House, which had been used as club event space.

The total damage is estimated at 708 thousand dollars. State fire marshals and insurance investigators are working with the Sugarcreek Township Fire Department.
