COLUMBUS, Ohio (WDTN) – The butter cow sculptures at the Ohio State Fair are rich in tradition, churn in Ohio history and milk the crowd for all its worth.

Butter puns aside, it is time to give this year’s cows a name. For the first time in 15 years, fair fans can cast a vote to name the bovine.

No more writing down a name on a piece of paper and throwing it in a pot. You can submit your name via Twitter using the hashtag #ButterCowNameGame.

The person with the winning name will be a part of the official unveiling on July 22. They receive VIP treatment including free tickets to the fair, vouchers for free ice cream and a t-shirt.

The Ohio State Fair opens July 23 through August 3.

The American Dairy Association also selects a theme each year for additional butter sculptures. The All-Ohio State Fair Youth Choir and its director were cast in butter last year to honor their 50th anniversary.

Other butter sculptures in years past included sculptures of John Glenn, Jack Hanna and Dave Thomas.
