URBANA, Ohio (WDTN) – A Clark County Sheriff’s deputy was in court Friday to face charges that he tried to hide evidence in a homicide investigation.

Matthew Kerns, 38, pleaded not guilty in Champaign County Court.

He was released on his own recognizance.  He is on unpaid administrative leave from the sheriff’s office and was ordered to surrender his weapon.

Prosecutors say Kerns impeded a murder investigation involving a relative, Christopher Myers.

Myers is accused of killing his father and injuring his brother in Urbana on Memorial Day.
