SUGARCREEK TOWNSHIP (WDTN) – A volunteer firefighter from Greene County was honored for helping save a truck driver.

The State Fire Marshal’s Award for Heroism was presented Monday night to Richard Wetzel.

Wetzel was driving home from work last month on I-75 when he witnessed a fiery tractor-trailer crash in Liberty Township.

Wetzel stopped and pulled one of the truckers from the burning wreckage.

He says he was just doing his job.
