Fire destroys vacant Dayton apartments

Children watch as Dayton firefighters battle flames at a vacant apartment building Thursday night.

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – An investigator is looking for what sparked a fire that destroyed three vacant apartment buildings in Dayton.

Fire crews rushed to the 3800 block of Cornell Drive just after 8 o’clock Thursday evening. They found heavy flames and smoke billowing into the sky.

A district fire chief told 2 NEWS because the flames were so intense, he opted to take a defensive measure, meaning firefighters would stay away from the building.

Investigators said the utilities were disconnected from all the buildings so they believe the cause is suspicious.
