Grandmother says attack ‘ruined my life’

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Her attacker will sit in prison for eight years, but she worries that her ordeal will last a lifetime.

2 NEWS spoke with Dora Hemp Friday about that fateful day when a man robbed her and beat her up in a Walmart parking lot.

Hemp, 52, was attacked in April at the Butler Township store. Her 3-year-old granddaughter was in her arms at the time.

She is recovered from the physical bruising that she had when 2 NEWS first interviewed her shortly after the attack.

Her emotional scars remain. Hemp says she is afraid to go outside now. She physically grabs onto her daughter for support every time they go out.

She says she now has trouble seeing, headaches and falls a lot.

In her words, Dionte English, “ruined my life”.

English was sentenced to eight years in prison for the assault. He apologized to Hemp in court and says drug abuse made him do it.
