WARREN COUNTY, Ohio (WDTN) – Jury selection began Monday for one of three men charged in connection with the beating death of a Dayton teenager.

Michael Watson is charged with aggravated murder, kidnapping, rape and tampering with evidence.

Police say 16-year-old Dione Payne was beaten during a drug deal in Franklin. He was dumped outside Atrium Medical Center in Middletown on December 1, 2013 and died from his injuries.

In May, one of Watson’s co-defendants, Michael Geldrich, pleaded guilty to aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, kidnapping and tampering. Geldrich agreed to testify against Watson.

Geldrich faces 22 years to life in prison. He will be sentenced once Watson’s trial is over.

The third man involved, Adam Patrick, pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery and was sentenced to 11 years in prison. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
