The flight took off from LaGuardia Airport (LGA) at 9:14 p.m., according to the flight tracking website Flight Aware. It was scheduled to leave at 7:35 p.m.

During the flight, Delta spokesperson Lindsay McDuff says the crew made the decision to divert to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) due to a gear issue.

McDuff says the flight landed at JFK without incident at 11:34 p.m.

LaGuardia and JFK are only 10.5 miles apart. A map from Flight Aware shows the plane’s intended flight path and the actual route it took.

McDuff says the airline is working to get passengers onto other flights. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
