SUGARCREEK, Ohio (WDTN) – The search for a missing dog in Sugarcreek finally paid off.

Cooper, the silver labrador, is back home safe and sound in his Sugarcreek home.

The dog’s story went viral last week getting thousands and thousands of hits on line.

The dog’s owner, Ann McDonough, says someone returned the dog to their Sugarcreek home Tuesday night.

She says the dog was put in an unlocked utility shed attached to their home eight days after she believes he was taken.  A neighbor who was watching the home while McDonough was away heard scratching and went to investigate.  He found Cooper inside.

She said several people showed up to her home Wednesday morning excited to meet Cooper.

McDonough praised the community for its outpouring of concern and effort to find the dog.  She told WDTN.com last week that she was hearing from people she didn’t even know who were looking for the dog.

A Facebook page dedicated to finding lost pets in the area reports that it received some 1,000 followers in one day when Cooper’s story went viral.

Cooper was checked by a vet, who says the dog lost a couple of pounds, but is doing just fine.
