NEW PARIS, Ohio (WDTN) – A New Paris man is under arrest after a brief overnight standoff.

Gregory Grubb, 49, is in the Preble County Jail charged with abduction, domestic violence, felonious assault, failure to comply and endangering children.

The sheriff says Grubb crashed his car after he allegedly assaulted a woman at his home and fired a couple of shots into the air.

The sheriff says Grubb then took off in his car and t-boned a van at US Route 40 and Ohio Route 320.

Deputies say Grubb kept going, driving back home.

That’s where deputies tried to arrest him, but he refused to get out of his car.

“It makes us be extremely cautious in approaching a vehicle, not knowing if he is or isn’t armed. We know that he had fired shots. We don’t know whether he’s injured from this crash, so there are more unknowns than knowns trying to approach that vehicle,” said Sheriff Simpson.

Simpson tells 2 NEWS two people in the mini-van suffered minor injuries.

The woman who was assaulted did not have to go to the hospital. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
