URBANA, Ohio (WDTN) – You’ve heard the line on every cop show, “You have a right to remain silent…” A motorist in Champaign County apparently didn’t get the memo.
An off-duty Champaign County Sheriff’s deputy spotted a car on US Highway 68 that he noticed was weaving in and out of the lane. He says he approached the car once it came to a skidding halt at Woodburn Road.
The deputy says the driver admitted that the car wasn’t his when asked. In fact, he told the deputy, “you might as well arrest me now”. Deputies say the suspect, Sheldon Pack, went on to advise, “I have a warrant for my arrest for a probation violation out of Champaign County and I just stole this vehicle.”
Pack told officers he stole the car from Heritage Tire Center on Logan Street in Urbana. The sheriff’s department confirms that the car was reported stolen.
Pack, 18, now faces charges including grand theft and driving under the influence along with that probation violation he admitted. He is in the Tri-County Jail.
