MORAINE, Ohio (WDTN) A Moraine pawn shop operator is out of jail on bond after police searched his home and business.
They believe 51-year-old Jeff Rich has been selling stolen property and is involved in an even bigger crime ring.
2 NEWS Investigates uncovered– it’s not the first time he’s been in trouble.
Jeff Rich was arrested Wednesday night on charges of receiving stolen property and obstructing official business. But 2 NEWS Investigates found that’s not the first time Rich has been in trouble for selling stolen property.
2 NEWS Investigates found Rich pled guilty to wire fraud, which is a felony, in 2006.
Court documents say he was in the business of selling stolen property on eBay. It states Rich was getting the inventory from thieves in the Dayton area who were stealing from local stores. The items taken and re-sold include power tools, electronics and things like vacuum cleaners.
He was given a plea deal and put on probation for 2 years.
So how was he able to start a pawn shop business in 2012 in Moraine with a felony charge that had to do with selling stolen property?
2 NEWS Investigates found his wife, Lisa is listed as the owner on the business registration for moraine pawn.
A Wednesday night raid of The Rich’s home and business uncovered stolen items that police say was taken from area stores by theives.
Moraine detectives say this is only the beginning of an investigation into what they are calling an organized crime ring.
Moraine detectives tell us Rich’s misdemeanor charges Wednesday night do not directly relate to the raids at his business and home. They say more charges are possible.
2 NEWS did reach out to Rich today. He declined comment until his attorney could be present.
