Child killed after being struck by vehicle

A 3 year old child is dead after being struck by a car in Richmond, Indiana Friday night.

RICHMOND, Indiana (WDTN) – Richmond police said a 3 year old girl was hit and killed by a vehicle Friday night.

It happened in the 400 block of South 12th street around 8:30 p.m. Police said an adult was dropping the girl off at her mother’s house and parked in the street.

The adult and child got out of the car and were preparing to cross the street to the mother’s house when the little girl saw her mother and ran between parked cars into the street.

That’s when police said she was struck by a car. A witness told 2 NEWS she gave CPR to the child before medics arrived.

The little girl was taken to the hospital where she later died.

Police said it doesn’t appear that alcohol or speed played a role in the crash and this was simply a tragic accident.
