SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – A Clark County man was arraigned Friday on animal cruelty charges.

Calvin Stewart, 24, was charged after his dog was found dead last December outside his Catherine Avenue home in Springfield.  The dog was still chained to a tree.

Humane society officials say the dog was thin and had visible frostbite at the time.

Stewart told officer he believes the dog died from something the neighbors fed it.

A necropsy of the dog revealed it had nothing in its stomach at the time.
