LEBANON, Ohio (WDTN) – A Warren County jury found a man guilty in the beating death of a Dayton teenager.

Michael Watson, 39, of Franklin, was found guilty of murder, kidnapping and tampering with evidence.

Watson and Michael Geldrich entered a residence on December 1, 2013 where Dione Payne, 16, of Dayton, was staying, tied him up and beat him in an attempt to steal money and drugs.  They then dropped Payne off at the hospital.  He died a few days later.

Watson was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years.

Geldrich pleaded guilty to murder in May.  A third man, Adam Patrick, pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery in June.

The family of Dione Payne released a statement through the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office that reads,”We are grateful to the Franklin Police Department and the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office for their work on this case, and we are very satisfied with today’s verdict and sentence.”
