CENTERVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) – A gravel truck is overturned on Interstate 675 closing all but one of the southbound lanes in the area of Wilmington Pike.
Centerville police say the truck, carrying 21 tons of gravel from Hageman Trucking, its address is listed on Linden Avenue in Dayton, dumped its load on the highway. The condition of the driver is not known.
Centerville Police Public Information Officer John Davis said the driver’s life was more than likely saved by the steel cable barriers that line both sides of the traffic lanes. The barriers, which were plowed by the truck when the driver apparently lost control are set by steel poles set in concrete.
“They were installed several years ago to prevent crossover fatalities – we haven’t had a fatality since then. It might tear up the car, but they don’t allow opposing traffic. We were lucky today,” said Davis.

The northbound lanes are not affected, but traffic is slow through the area. Southbound lanes are expected to open at 3:30.
