Suspects in football player’s murder indicted

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – Two people accused of killing a Springfield football star are now formally charged.

Kendrick Stroder, 20, was indicted for various charges including complicity to aggravated murder.

Tyrin Hawkins, 17, will be tried as an adult on aggravated murder and murder charges among others.

Both are accused in the death of Jeffrey Wellington, Jr. Wellington was shot on April 20, 2014 while trying to break up a fight outside an apartment building on North Limestone Street. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
