SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – Springfield residents gathered Tuesday night at a children’s memorial.
This comes only a short time after it was discovered that teenagers had vandalized the park. Residents tell us the thieves stole a 12 foot tall fountain which caused many of the pond’s bigger fish to die.
Tonight the community garnered support to watch over the park during nighttime hours to ensure the memorial remains safe.
We spoke with several families whose children are remembered on the wall.
“That would be like going into a graveyard and vandalizing sacred areas. The essence of society that we hold those sacred and dear would be off limits to that type of thing, but I guess not,” said Laticia Mercurio, who lost a daughter due to domestic violence.
Organizers are offering $500 if you have any information that would lead to a conviction. Call Springfield Police with any tips.
