SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – A not guilty plea in court Thursday from the man accused of shooting a former high school football star.

Bond was set at $500,000 for Tyrin Hawkins who is sitting in the Clark County Jail right now.

The other suspect, Kendrick Stroder, is due in court next week. He is also being kept in jail as proceedings progress.

Both men are accused in the shooting death of Jeffrey Wellington. Police say Wellington was trying to break up an argument at a party on Easter Sunday when he was shot.

Hawkins was a juvenile at the time of the crime, but has since been transferred to adult court to face adult charges.
