Police investigate after small dog shot


DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Dayton police are investigating after a woman’s dog was shot.

Officers were called to the 2400 block of Lakeview Avenue just before 2 p.m. Friday on reports of shots fired.

The victim’s niece called police and told officers that her aunt’s boyfriend shot her aunt’s dog.

Police found a small brown dog, possibly a Shih Tzu, named Lady behind the air conditioning unit on the side of the home with a gunshot wound to its right leg and a large amount of blood. The dog was still conscious.

The victim’s niece told police her aunt’s boyfriend was mad at her aunt, pulled out a gun, and fired a shot hitting the dog in the leg. He then ran from the scene.

The dog was taken to the Animal Resource Center to be treated for its injuries.

Police collected a shell casing from the scene.

No arrests have been made.
