BRADFORD, Ohio (WDTN)- Two children, one a 5-year-old child, are recovering after being struck by a truck at the 9600 block of Grise Road in Darke County.

Deputies with the Darke County Sheriff’s Office said that the girls were injured while riding the same bike.

The girls, a 13-year-old and a 5-year-old, were riding eastbound on Grise Road when a truck, heading in the same direction, hit the children.  Deputies say the driver of the truck that hit the girls is 17-years-old.

The grandmother of the children said the youngest child was taken by CareFlight and the other taken via ambulance to separate hospitals. She said both children were awake and responsive.

One of the girls was taken to Dayton Children’s. The other girl was taken to Upper Valley Medical Center.

Both Darke County Sheriff’s Office and Bradford Fire and Rescue were at the scene investigating.

Grise Road remained closed to traffic for several hours.

Officials have ruled out alcohol or drugs in the accident.
