Vehicle set on fire reduced to charred metal

Dayton-Police-Car

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A vehicle was reduced to a charred metal frame after someone set it ablaze.

Police and fire crews were dispatched to the 800 block of Wilmington Avenue around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Officials opened the hood and found the battery was already disconnected, which meant the fire did not originate from the engine compartment.

Officials believe someone had purposely set fire to the 1998 white Ford Taurus.

One witness said the vehicle was likely abandoned and believed it had been in the parking lot since March.

The vehicle was towed from the lot.

Officers ran the license plates and found they expired in August 2013, and the plates returned to an address in Centerville. Police were unable to speak with the person at that address.

Police are treating the incident as an arson.
