Businesses placing bets on new racino

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Finishing touches are being made to the new Hollywood Gaming Dayton Raceway two weeks ahead of the grand opening.

Businesses in the area are hoping the odds are in their favor.

“Been looking forward to it for a long time,” said Todd Recher, one of the owners of the Airway Billiards Bar and Grill.

A small crowd gathered Wednesday night inside the pool hall. A tournament was just about to begin as people warmed up on one of the many pool tables.

The numbers, however, were far from the crowd that used to come when the Delphi Auto Plant was open where the new racino now sits.

“They were great people and great customers,” said Recher. “We certainly missed them as soon as they were gone.”

Down the road, more businesses are hoping to cash in on the racino’s draw.

The Ramada Plaza Dayton changed the name of it’s restaurant to go with the racing theme.

“Someone just suggested that we are nearest to the casino,” said Sam Taneja, Front Desk Manager at the Ramada Plaza Dayton. “We could name it as Track Side.”

The sign for the Track Side Bar and Grille is so new, the lights had not been installed.

The staff, however, is ready to see customers galloping down the road bringing a few of their winnings with them.

“We are ready for it,” said Taneja. “We are getting prepared for it. We might get good business out here.”

When the racino doors open to the public August 28, businesses in the area hoping it is just the break they have been looking to get.

“I think it’s going to help the whole area,” said Recher. “Of course, traffic up and down Needmore Road is going to be much greater. We’re hoping to pick up some people before and after they go enjoy the racino.”
