FAIRFIELD, Ohio (AP) – A Fairfield woman’s family has retained a retired detective to look for answers about her death eluding them three years after her disappearance and more than a year after her skeletal remains were found in Indiana.

Art student Katelyn Markham, 21, disappeared from her home Aug. 14, 2011, days before her 22nd birthday. Her skeletal remains were found in April 2013 in a wooded area near Cedar Grove.

Published reports say Indiana State Police are investigating the homicide case but say they haven’t received new leads in months.

Her father, David Markham, has been frustrated with the lack of progress and asked a former Butler County cold case detective to investigate, bringing fresh eyes to the case. They’re hoping that will lead to more answers. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
