SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – Springfield’s superintendent doesn’t do anything half-baked.
Dr. David Estrop was leading his final convocation for the school district Tuesday morning.
“I think it’s just starting to settle in now that this is probably the last one. It is the last one,” he tells us.
Dr. Estrop led today’s convocation by beginning with a powerpoint presentation; however, that presentation that quickly turned into a musical.
Teachers and staff members of the school district re-enacted Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Dr. Estrop–or Willy Wonka–used each character to show how the school district is becoming an innovator for the state to follow.
“Some of our children may start behind, but we’re not leaving them behind. That puts us in the top 3-percent of student progress for all schools in the state of Ohio,” Dr. Estrop said.
Doctor Estrop emphasized the financial stability of the district… and that third grade assessments are leading the state.
“The thing that’s important is that our students in Springfield are making incredible progress,”
If chocolate poured as heavily as the progress in the Springfield City School district over the past six years, you’d be in a diabetic coma.
Willy Wonka can finally hand over the keys — He’s leaving the school district better than when he began.
“Well how can you go wrong when a Wildcat marching band and drill team shows up and sends everyone on their way?” He asked.
Dr. Estrop is retiring at the end of the school year.
