DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A Dayton woman will spend eight years in prison for stabbing her boyfriend to death.

Denise Daugherty, 31, was sentenced in Montgomery County court for involuntary manslaughter.

Daugherty stabbed John Thomas, 42, inside the couple’s Briarwood Avenue apartment on March 24.

Prosecutors say Daugherty grabbed a kitchen knife during an argument and stabbed Thomas in the upper left shoulder, severing a major artery.

Thomas died at the hospital.
