SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – Springfield police say there will be no charges filed in the aftermath of a drowning at Buck Creek.

Collin Jenkins, 9, drowned Monday while playing near the dam.

Investigators say he and other children were sliding down the dam into the arms of a waiting adult when they slipped into the water.

The man and another child made it to safety. Collin did not. His body was recovered a short time later.

Signs were posted that said no swimming.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for the boy who was set to begin a new school year. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
