DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — The Dayton Art Institute welcomed military families for a Blue Star Saturday.
The art museum hosted a day of fun family activities to celebrate the 2014 season of Blue Star Museums, a collaboration between museums, the Department of Defense, and Blue Star Families to offer free admission to the nation’s active duty military.
Teachers were on hand to help families in art-making activities with a back-to-school theme.
Families could also visit the Experiencenter, a themed, hands-on museum space. A show called “Decked Out” was also put on, demonstrating how people express their personalities through what they wear. A specially produced gallery guide took families are the world to explore clothing association with countries and civilization.
Blue Star families were also welcomed to a discounted admission for the special exhibition “Dayton Celebrates Glass: Chihuly, Littleton, Labino and Beyond,” featuring glass art from the past 50 years. Blue Star families could also receive an extra discount on a membership to the art museum.
