Ranch says good-bye to “Sam”

TROY, Ohio (WDTN) — A sad day for Idle-Hour Ranch in Troy as it opened its doors without one of its beloved animals.

Ranch officials say their giraffe “Sam” had to be put down this past week after falling ill.

The ranch held a memorial for Sam Saturday accepting donations in lieu of admission.

People placed flowers along his fence and offered their condolences.

Sam spent the last 12 years at Idle-Hour Ranch.

The ranch will be open all weekend for visitation. If you’d like to pay tribute to Sam, the ranch will be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday on a donation basis. Idle-Hour Ranch is located at 4845 Fenner Road in Troy.

All donations made this weekend will be put towards the bills incurred by Sam’s illness to help ease the ranch’s burden of getting the other animals through the winter. If you wish to donate online, click here.
