DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Attorneys for the family of John Crawford, III  say the Walmart surveillance video of shows he was not menacing and they want everyone to see that.

So they are challenging Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine to publicly display the video. They are also requesting the investigation of the Beavercreek Walmart fatal shooting by police to be turned over to the federal government.

“In order for this investigation to be fair and unbiased, we need Attorney General DeWine to refer to not just a special prosecutor, but to the Department of Justice,” said Michael Wright, of the law firm, Wright and Schulte.

The attorneys say only portions of the surveillance video have been released and one of the reasons they want the U. S. government to take over the probe is because they feel Mike DeWine’s “hand picking” of the special prosecutor is a biased selection.

The video, according to the attorneys, shows Crawford leaning on the butt of the BB gun with the barrel pointed to the floor, as he talked on his cell phone. Other shoppers, they say are indifferent to him and show no concern. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
