DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Dayton police are again asking for your help solving a double family tragedy in this week’s Exclusive Crime Stoppers Report.

A father and son both gunned down in separate incidents.

It was just after noon on Sept. 11, 2008 when 16-year-old Kendrick Pope was fatally shot behind Jefferson Montessori School in the 1200 block of North Euclid Avenue in Dayton.

Police believe Pope had been robbed and got caught in the crossfire when gunshots rang out.

And then just days later more gunfire claimed the life of Pope’s father, 34-year-old Dwight Hardy as he was attending a prayer vigil for his slain son.

“It’s scary out here. You can’t even walk your streets anymore,” said neighbor TonyRutledge. “You can’t even open your doors, and they are shooting at random. All those gunshots out here. No telling how many people could’ve got shot.”

“It’s a tragedy. It’s very difficult for the neighborhood, the community, the police department, and our thoughts go out to the families,” said Dayton police Lt. Wendy Stiver.
