Ecuadorian liquor prompts grocery store raid

MORAINE, Ohio (WDTN) – Moraine police shut down a grocery store for selling illegal liquor.

Officers say they received a tip that illegal sales were happening at Variedades Lantinas in the 2700 block of West Alex-Bell Road.

Officers served a search warrant and confiscated beer, some cash and 60 bottles of Paute Zhumir. Paute Zhumir is a sugar cane liquor from Ecuador. It is not approved for sale in Ohio.

Martha Reino, 40, of West Carrollton, and Mario Vasquez, 39, of Moraine, are charged with illegal sales of intoxicating liquor.

They are scheduled into Kettering Municipal Court next month.
