Xenia center focuses on heroin addicted pregnancies

XENIA, Ohio (WDTN) – An oasis in Xenia is helping women addicted to drugs and alcohol and now its focusing on the women in the community who are pregnant and struggle specifically with heroin addiction.

Congressman Mike Turner, Terry Burns, president of the Soin Medical Center of the Kettering Health Network and Michele Cox, executive director of the Women’s Recovery Center, met Wednesday.

The Women’s Recovery Center helps women in a multi-county area mend their lives.

Wednesday, the center made a plea for support through the office of Congressman Mike Turner. Right now, the non profit houses more than 30 women in its building and has the capacity to house more in the cottages located in front of the location at 515 Martin Drive.

DeeDee Dawson and Brenda Thomas are recovering addicts who went through the program at the center and now are employed there, helping other women. Both say the program saved their lives and brought them closer to their families.

Cox and Turner say to push recovery further, especially for pregnant women, the heroin epidemic needs a funding plan which is what they are working on.
