DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Stivers School for the Arts  will be open Friday, August 29, with students and staff resuming classes

The school has been closed since Dayton fire fighters responded to a Wednesday morning fire in the building.

The building’s sprinkler system contained the fire on the first floor, where stage sets are stored, minimizing damage. Effects from smoke presented the biggest challenge to reopening the school.” said Jill Moberley, director of public information, Dayton Public Schools.

Stivers’ Open House, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, will be rescheduled.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
