Family displaced after Urbana fire

URBANA, Ohio (WDTN) – A family is without their home tonight after flames break out Saturday night.

The fire started just after 8 p.m. near Ward and Sycamore in Urbana.

Initial reports indicated someone may have been trapped inside but firefighters said they did not see anyone.

Investigators have a theory as to why the flames spread so quickly throughout the home.

“Most likely due to the construction of the house,” said Chief Mark Keller with the Urbana Fire Department. “The fire could actually have started in the basement and worked its way up into the attic pretty easily.”

The fire department is still investigating the exact cause of the fire.

The American Red Cross has been called to assist the family.
