Officers trying to figure out how man was stabbed in chest

Crime Scene Tape

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Dayton Police are trying to piece together how a man was stabbed.

Police were called to the 100 block of Indianola Avenue around 3 p.m. Saturday.

The victim, 63-year-old Jimmy Gilliam said his friend had stabbed him in the chest and then fled the scene.

When officers arrived, Gilliam was being put on a gurney. Police said he was highly intoxicated and being combative with the medics.

A neighbor told police Gilliam and the victim were fighting in the backyard. He said he captured the incident on his cell phone. Police reviewed the video, which they said showed Gilliam throwing the woman on the ground, punching, and kicking her while he called police and said he was being attacked. Officers said the woman had a walker and could not defend herself.

Officers searched the scene for the woman, but didn’t find her. Police also looked for a knife, but never found one.

Medics rushed the victim to the hospital. They said the knife may have punctured the victim’s lung.

Dayton Police are still investigating.
