Shooting suspect in custody after police swarm home

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Dayton Police have taken a suspect into custody following a shooting.

Officers along with homicide detectives were called to the 100 block of Arlington Avenue after 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

When officials arrived, they found the victim shot in the torso.

The victim was transported to the hospital where he was rushed into surgery. No word right now on the victim’s condition. He has not yet been identified.

According to witnesses, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, but crashed on the U.S. 35 eastbound ramp from I-75 south. After crashing the vehicle, the suspect ran from the scene. Police are also looking into whether the suspect may have caused another crash on 35 east.

Around 11 a.m. police received a tip that the suspect was in a home in the 700 block of Heck Avenue. Police surrounded the home

and told the suspect they weren’t leaving until he came outside. They used a bullhorn and were able to convince him to come out of the home peacefully. No one was hurt and the man was arrested. Two children were inside the home at the time.

The suspect’s name has not yet been released.
