SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – Springfield police tell 2 NEWS, 32-year-old Rachel Johnson shot both of her sons, then turned the gun on herself.

Her estranged husband, Arthur Johnson, was picking up the boys for school when he found the bodies. He told the 911 operator their wedding pictures were all over the floor.

Springfield police say the couple was separated but trying to work things out.

After searching through public documents today, 2 NEWS found the Johnson’s’ were coming up on their first wedding anniversary in a little more than a week.

Even though they had been together for more than 10 years, they hadn’t even been married for one.

Their marriage license lists Rachel as a waitress and Arthur as a mechanic.

Both living in Springfield, but records show neither of them own the home Rachel and their two boys were found in Wednesday.

This is what we know so far about their time together before they were married. Both are listed as the parents of the two boys killed. Court records indicate there was an application for order of support for the boys filed in March of 2010 which deals with child support — but it was terminated this past March because the two were married by then.

Besides that, there were no other public documents indicating there were any problems.

We also learned Arthur was previously married and has three other sons. He does not have custody of those children. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
