Oakwood police chief finalist for West Chester top job

WEST CHESTER, Ohio (WDTN) – Two local police officers are in the running for the top job in the West Chester Police Department.

A field of 24 candidates was narrowed down to five.

The police chief will command a 100 member department.  He will replace Erik Niehaus who resigned to take a position as an attorney in a law firm.

Candidates include Oakwood Police Chief Alexander Bebris.

Major Chris Williams of the Dayton Police Department is also one of the top five.

They are joined by Caption Joel Herzog of the the West Chester department, Jason Lyons, a commander in Colorado and Stewart Steele, a candidate from Boynton Beach, Florida.

After more review, a final few will be presented to the Board of Trustees for consideration.

A decision is expected by the end of the year.

Assistant Chief Dave Kelly is the acting chief in the meantime. He will return to his role as assistant once a new chief is selected.
