State investigators recreate shooting at Beavercreek Walmart

BEAVERCREEK, Ohio (WDTN) – Investigators from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation took over the Beavercreek Walmart overnight.

A Beavercreek police dispatcher told 2 NEWS the store on Pentagon Blvd. would be closed from 2:00 a.m. until 5:00 a.m. for maintenance.

Our crew at the store spotted a BCI truck outside and saw investigators in the store. WDTN Photojournalist Bear Everett reported hearing test gunfire.

The store was the scene of a deadly police-involved shooting on August 5, 2014. Officers shot and killed John Crawford, III after they say he refused to put down the weapon he was holding.

We were given a written statement which reads, “Agents with the Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) conducted a reconstruction of the incident in an effort to further define the timeline of events. All of the evidence gathered as part of the investigation will be given to the Hamilton County special prosecutor appointed by the court to present the case to a Greene County Grand Jury.”

The store reopened to customers just after 7:00 a.m.

The grand jury is set to meet on September 22.
