DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A Trotwood man was sentenced Wednesday for the crash that killed his girlfriend.
Ryan M. Hayes, 33 ,was ordered to serve 90 months in prison for the Sept. 17, 2011 crash that killed 33-year-old Qadriyyah Harvey.
Montgomery County Prosecutor, Mat Heck, Jr. said despite clearly visible warning signs that had been put up the month before advising the road was closed to traffic, Hayes drove his vehicle into the closed section on Hoover Avenue and struck a piece of construction equipment. The impact of the collision injured Hayes and instantly killed Harvey.
Investigators determined that at the time of the crash that Hayes had a blood alcohol concentration of .171, more than double the legal limit.
At trial, a jury found the Hayes guilty of two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and two counts of OVI.
