SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – The Springfield School District has a tough job Thursday.

They must help students cope with the loss of two classmates.

The boys, Ayden, 10, and Daylan Johnson, 7, were in second and fourth graders at Warder Park Elementary.

Police say their mother shot them to death before turning the gun on herself.

Administrators and teachers are not only getting counseling for students, but they themselves must come to terms with what happened Wednesday morning on Burt Street.

Police say the boys’ father discovered the scene when we went to pick his sons up for school.

The school district has a crisis team at the school. A therapy dog was also sent to the school Wednesday to help the children.

A makeshift memorial is now growing outside the house where the tragedy happened.

Balloons and stuffed animals line the front yard of the Johnson’s home.

In the meantime, police continue their investigation into exactly what sparked the shootings.

We know that the couple was estranged, but a family friend she expected nothing so tragic as this.
